Privacy Policy
How StretchCode handles learner information.
StretchGroup Technologies Inc. operates StretchCode at stretchcode.ca. This policy explains how we handle information about people who use StretchCode, an online software-development learning platform with courses, career paths, quizzes, and verified certificates. It is written for readers in Canada and describes our practices with Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA, in mind.
1. Information we collect
When you create and use a learner account, we hold the information needed to provide the service. This can include your name, email address, and password hash. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes; we do not store a plain-text password.
You can sign in with email and password or with Google sign-in. If you use Google sign-in, we receive your name, email, profile picture, and Google's account identifier only.
We also hold your course enrolments, lesson progress, quiz attempts and scores, certificates, membership status, and Stripe customer ID. A certificate's public verification page shows the holder name, course, and certificate serial.
For account security and service operation, we hold session records including IP address, user agent, and timestamps, along with security and audit events. We also keep records of emails we send, such as verification, welcome, password reset, and trial or billing notices.
2. How we use information
We use this information to:
- create and secure your account and authenticate sign-ins;
- provide courses, career paths, quizzes, progress tracking, and certificates;
- manage StretchCode Pro membership and payment-related account information;
- send service messages, including verification, welcome, password reset, trial, and billing notices;
- maintain security, investigate abuse, and keep audit records; and
- respond to questions and review billing questions case by case.
3. StretchCode Pro and payments
Beginner courses are free. StretchCode Pro unlocks intermediate and advanced courses, career paths, and verified certificates. The price is CAD $19 per month or CAD $190 per year. Pro includes a 7-day free trial with no card, available once per person. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard through the Stripe customer portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Taxes are added where applicable.
Payments are processed by Stripe. StretchCode never sees or stores card numbers. We receive and hold a Stripe customer ID and membership status so we can provide the membership. Billing questions are reviewed case by case through our contact page.
4. Service providers
We use service providers to operate StretchCode. Stripe processes payments. Google provides Google sign-in. Our cloud hosting provider is Amazon Web Services, and we use our own outbound email system to send service emails. These providers process information for the service they provide. We do not sell personal information.
StretchCode learner accounts live in a separate database from other StretchGroup and StretchSuite products and are not shared with them.
5. Cookies
StretchCode uses only strictly necessary cookies. The service uses a session cookie named sg_code_session, which is httpOnly, and a short-lived sign-in state cookie during Google sign-in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
6. Certificates and public information
StretchCode issues verified certificates as part of the learning service. The public certificate verification page shows the holder name, course, and serial so that a certificate can be checked. Please avoid submitting information you do not want included in your own submissions or certificate-related information.
7. Retention
We keep account data until the account is deleted. We keep billing and tax records for as long as the law requires. Security logs are kept for a limited period. The exact period can depend on the type of record and the reason it is retained.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you. You can delete your account from your dashboard or ask us to. You can also withdraw consent where consent is the basis for a use of your information, although doing so may affect the features we can provide.
To make a privacy request or ask a question, use our contact page. If you have a concern about our handling of your personal information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
9. Children
StretchCode is not directed to children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our service or privacy practices change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new update date. For questions about this policy or your information, contact StretchCode through stretchcode.ca/contact.
